All Class Descriptions

Level 1

For students will study basic principles through standing and seated postures, while emphasizing respect for the students’ abilities.

Level 1-2

An advanced beginner class for students wishing to extend their learning.

Level 2

Recommended for more advanced students who have completed a Level I/2 class at Circle Yoga or an equivalent class at another studio.

Level 2-3

Level 2–3 is for more-advanced students. Completion of Level 1–2, Level 2, or equivalent is required.

Gentle Yoga

A good yoga class for adults of any age, including seniors and those with minor physical ailments, in which students will practice beginning yoga poses and learn the principles of body alignment and breath awareness.

Super Gentle Yoga

For students with special conditions, or who desire a slower pace to their yoga class. In this class students will gently practice yoga using a variety of props and chairs, as needed, allowing them to experience the stretching and strengthening benefits of yoga regardless of their current physical condition.

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS)

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) developed by Aaron Mattes is a popular technique among various types bodywork therapists who treat injury recovery and/or work to enhance flexibility and range of motion and improve performance in athletes.  AIS can be done on oneself as well as with assistance.  AIS  is excellent for isolating areas in the body that need specific attention, such as injury sites.   In this class we will explore stretching in a unique, specific, safe and focused manner to improve flexibility and strength throughout the body.

Baby & Me Yoga (babies ages 6 wks.- 6 mos.)

This Baby & Me Yoga class combines yoga, breath awareness, and relaxation for moms, dads, or caregivers and their babies. Baby will be included in your yoga practice as you reconnect with your body, regain strength and flexibility, and learn new ways of moving and playing with your infant. This class is for babies who are not yet crawling. Please bring a blankie.

Detox & Restore

This class fully integrates three key practices of yoga: mindful asana, breathing techniques (pranayama) and guided meditations to break habitual patterns of thinking and posture and get greater access to our own source of strength and health. We’ll specially use twists, forward bends and restorative postures to cleanse your body and your mind while increasing relaxation, openness and ease. For students Level 1-2 and up.

Flow Yoga

Flow Yoga gently warms the body, softens the heart and steadies the mind. The basic Sun salutations sequence is used to connect various standing and floor poses. Each pose (asana) is linked to the next via breath, leading to a flowing series of movements. The intention is that students bring this sense of ‘flow’ (vinyasa) off the mat and to other parts of their lives.

Pilates

Students will learn the basic principles and exercises of the Pilates mat workout. They will explore this series of low-impact mat exercises and will develop core strength, coordination, flexibility, balance, and focus.

Prenatal Yoga

A class for all pregnant women, including yoga beginners. We will stretch and strengthen through yoga postures designed especially for pregnancy, and include breathing techniques and relaxation designed to help prepare for the upcoming birth. Read more about our Prenatal Yoga classes.

Qigong + Movement for Relaxation

Using Qigong and other body-oriented mindfulness practices, this class is designed to help students learn relaxation techniques and develop the ability to tolerate stress more effectively. Qigong is an ancient Chinese form of exercise, meditation, and stretching to help bring the body into balance, health, and vitality. Mindful movement from other modalities–including various forms of bodywork, Dance Movement Therapy, and the Alexander Technique–will also be integrated into this class.

Shake Your Soultm

Shake Your Soultm is a moving fitness experience where dynamic music and entrancing rhythms free your body and inspire your spirit. It combines many movement styles which merge into a seamless whole that evokes healing for our physical and emotional hearts. No dance experience needed.

Yoga + Mindfulness

We will practice mindfulness of the body through guided meditation, yoga asanas (poses), and deep relaxation.

Yoga Nidra

Translated literally as Yogic Sleep, through a process of guided meditation Yoga Nidra enables one to remove the subconscious blocks to achieving life goals through a focused intention, known as a Sankulpa. Practiced on a regular basis, Yoga Nidra has the potential to induce relaxation in the body and mind, eliminate stress, promote health, and draw upon the power of our innate wisdom to solve personal problems.

Yoga for Runners & Cyclists

Participants will learn specific yoga postures helpful to some of the muscle groups (hips, quads, hamstrings, and shoulders) that may be overtaxed by running and cycling. This class is for anyone who wants to find greater ease and opening in their hips and hamstrings, shoulders and upper back, and between the pelvis and lower back. Students will also learn to deepen the connection between movement, awareness, and breath.

Yoga for Women Cancer Survivors

This gentle class for women with breast cancer and other cancers includes breathing exercises, slow arm stretches, healing yoga sequences, restorative yoga and balancing work appropriate during and after cancer treatment. We practice in a safe space that encourages and nurtures warrior women from brand new beginners to experienced yoginis undergoing treatment for and in remission from cancer. This is a donation-based class; proceeds will benefit women’s cancer-related organizations.
