with Debbie Helfeld, AHC, RYT500
An Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) is trained to use the knowledge of Ayurveda, the holistic medical system behind the practice of yoga, to help people live well-balanced lives, promoting good health and vitality. The AHC combines modern developments and techniques with the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, assisting people to live in harmony with their innate constitutions, the seasons, and their time of life. The focus is on disease prevention and health promotion, educating and working with clients on diet, lifestyle, daily routine, and stress management.
Debbie Helfeld has been practicing and studying Ayurveda for more than 6 years. She is certified as an AHC with the National Ayurvedic Medical Association. She is trained to provide individual counseling and make recommendations. The issues addressed in a one-on-one session may include: healthy eating, cooking support and dietary changes, digestive issues, sleep issues, stress reduction, and healthy aging. Debbie has also been teaching yoga for more than 10 years (RYT 500) to both adults and children. She holds a Masters degree in Public Health in Health Behavior and Health Education.
Before the initial Ayurvedic Counseling session, Debbie will send the client a health questionnaire and constitutional assessments to be completed in advance of the appointment. During the initial session, she will conduct a thorough intake, review the information provided by the client, and address any individual concerns and needs. Together they develop an individually tailored plan which could focus on one or more of the following: food choices, meal preparation, daily routine, breathing practices, meditation, and specific yoga routines or poses, especially restorative poses and relaxation practices.
