About the Therapist
Lisa Schumacher, a native Washingtonian, is a Licensed Massage Therapist in DC and Maryland. She graduated from the Baltimore School of Massage in 1996. Lisa specializes in Zero Balancing, Deep Massage: The Lauterstein Method, Massage Cupping™ and Facial Rejuvenation. She has also been a Reiki practitioner for over 20 years. She has studied Myofascial Release, Active Isolated Stretching, Facelift Massage, and BioEnergy Healing.
A typical massage session with Lisa incorporates a combination of techniques, which are dictated by the client’s needs and goals. Some clients just want a soothing gentle session, while others may want to focus on a specific issue–such as tight shoulders or low back pain–and might need something more invigorating. Lisa combines Swedish massage with Deep Massage, Myofascial Release, elements of Zero Balancing, and other techniques she has acquired over the last 20 years. Zero Balancing – Zero Balancing (ZB) is a simple yet elegant approach to finding balance in body, mind, and spirit. It is a cutting-edge modality, developed by Osteopath and Acupuncturist Fritz Smith in the late 1970s, that optimizes health and physical function by aligning a person’s structure and energy. This is achieved by working with the skeletal system using acupressure (fulcrums) and traction. Using skilled touch to release held energy from the deepest part of us (our bones) has a very positive effect throughout the body as imbalances are corrected, resulting in relief from pain, anxiety, and stress while promoting a deep sense of integration and wellness. ZB can help with any condition caused by stress or an energy imbalance. It can help you find a better “normal.”
Deep Massage: The Lauterstein Method – Experience the benefits of Deep Massage as developed by David Lauterstein, noted educator in the field of bodywork. Deep Massage is the product of Lauterstein’s exploration of the evolution of touch therapies in the last 50 years. This work uses therapeutic touch that affects clients deeply, not necessarily with more pressure, but with a more profound connection, with powerful benefits for body, mind, and spirit. Deep Massage is influenced by the concept from Zero Balancing of integrating energy with structure for soft tissue, with additional influences from Rolfing, Craniosacral Therapy, and Myofascial Release. Integrating energy and structure connects to the nervous system and signals it to calm down. If the nervous system is constantly on high alert, no amount of massage therapy will produce the serenity you seek.
Lisa is a wonderful bodywork practitioner and healer. I find her ZB sessions to be a soothing oasis. She is deeply committed to helping her clients receive what they need and can incorporate many modalities (different types of massage, ZB, even stretching techniques) into a session. J.K. in Bethesda (client since 2010)
I’ve been receiving a combination of ZB and Massage from Lisa for over 10 years. During which she has helped me recover from lower back injuries to a bad motorcycle accident and most recently from a 3rd degree shoulder separation which the doctor thought I might very well need surgery. Not only did I not need surgery, but I had full recovery. Lisa is amazing!” — Stephanie Fosberg (client since 1996)
I suspect that like many type A aging males, my level of skepticism regarding Lisa’s services was quite significant. After all, until I met her I had never even been the recipient of a basic massage…. At the time I was training to run in a marathon and along with the normal career pressures we all face I was pretty stressed. The session proved highly beneficial and frankly erased many of my doubts because of the immediate results I experienced. Since the time of my first exposure to ZB and therapeutic massage at Lisa’s capable hands I have become and will remain a loyal and consistent client and have strongly recommended her to many others.” — Stephen J. Niven, Jr. (client since 2007)
