Update on Circle Yoga's temporary closure
Friday, March 13, 2020
Dear Circle Yoga Students,
Thanks to those of you who sent emails yesterday with words of support after our announcement about Circle Yoga’s temporary closure. It was reassuring to know that so many of you understand the challenges this situation presents to our small cooperative business, our teachers, and our staff.
Beginning sometime next week, we will offer a few virtual classes with Circle Yoga teachers to help you stay healthy, active, and connected to the Circle Yoga community. Stay tuned for details.
COVID-19 in the Community
We were notified yesterday that Circle Yoga student, Anne Chase, was diagnosed with COVID-19 (coronavirus) on the evening of Wednesday, Mar. 11. She last attended her regular class at the studio on Saturday, Feb. 29. Within hours of when her family notified the studio of her diagnosis, we contacted all students who were in that class as well as the teacher and staff member who might have come into contact with her. At that point, we also made the decision to close the studio.
Ms. Chase was admitted to the hospital on Mar. 4 due to dizziness and confusion—family members were concerned that she might have been having a stroke. It was not until Mar. 7 that she began having respiratory symptoms, while still in the hospital. She tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, Mar. 11. It is not clear if she had the virus before she went to the hospital or if she contracted it there. She is stable, comfortable, and in good spirits.
Ms. Chase’s daughter, Noel Healy, attended class at the studio the following week, on Saturday, Mar. 7. Ms. Healy does not have any symptoms of COVID-19. So far, the hospital and health department have declined to test her for the virus because she has shown no symptoms. We notified all students who were in class with her that day.
Make-up Classes for the Winter Session
Since we closed three weeks before the end of the Winter Session, we know that our registered students are wondering about make-up classes. If it’s important to you and your budget that you receive class vouchers for the remaining classes you will miss this session, please complete this form. If you are able to contribute your unused classes to the cause of supporting your neighborhood studio, you would help us make our teachers whole for this session and lessen the strain on the business in the coming months.
Circle Yoga is committed to paying teachers through Friday, Apr. 3, based on the number of registered students they had for the Winter Session. Beyond that, teacher pay will be based on Spring Session registration. If you are able, we hope that you will register for your usual classes for the Spring Session.
Virtual Classes and Spring Registration
We expect to reopen for the Spring Session beginning on Monday, Apr. 6. Early registration for the Spring Session will open this Monday, Mar. 16, as scheduled. Staff will be at the front desk to take registrations and questions by phone on Monday, 9:00am-1:00pm. If you are comfortable registering in person at the studio, you are welcome to stop in. For students who register for the Spring Session, we will expand our offering of virtual classes until we can practice together at the studio again.
Thanks again for your understanding and patience.
Wishing you peace and good health.
