The Nervous System, Yoga, and Mindful Movement

The nervous system is the central command center of our movement, thoughts, emotions, and experiences with the world. It takes in information, processes it, and outputs signals, yet within that simple process there are many variables that we can control.

Join Diana Zotos Florio, the New York-based founder of Threes Physiyoga, for a practical introduction to the function and anatomy of the nervous system and how yoga and mindfulness can affect it. With evidence-based research, Diana brings you up to date on movement control, pain science, stress adaptations and “being present.” You will learn why it is so important to understand how the brain and spinal cord work, and how to harness their power with practical yoga and mindfulness tools to make lasting healthy change.

This workshop is designed for yoga teachers, experienced yoga students, and teachers in other modalities.

The postpartum months are a time of intense changes and challenges. Join Diana Zotos Florio, the New York-based founder of Threes Physiyoga, for a unique workshop on how to support your whole self—body, mind, and spirit—after you have a baby. We’ll build community and encourage skillful self-care as you:

  • Learn how to use posture, breath, and mindfulness to care for your abdominal wall, diaphragm, and pelvic floor
  • Train in healthy alignment for nursing, lifting, and carrying your baby
  • Talk about how to prioritize and manage the demands on your body, mind, and spirit so that you can find more time in your life for what matters most

Fee: $50 if registered by Feb 14 / $65 after Feb 14

Postpartum Yoga

Saturday, Mar 7, 12:30-7:00pm
The Kinetic Core Canister

Specially designed for yoga teachers, this workshop will offer an in-depth, up-to-date look at core anatomy and physiology. Diana Zotos Florio, the New York-based founder of Threes Physiyoga, will combine lecture and practice to help you learn how a healthy core canister functions and how common imbalances show up in your students. You’ll leave with new insights into the anatomical foundations of yoga and pranayama and a variety of innovative ways to support the alignment, strength, and overall functionality of the all-important core. Experienced students and teachers in other modalities are also welcome!

Fee: $160 if registered by Feb 14 / $175 after Feb 14

Certified yoga teachers will be eligible to receive CEUs for the sessions they attend.

About Diana Zotos Florio

Diana is a licensed physical therapist and certified yoga teacher based in New York. In addition to her private practice, she co-founded the Threes Physiyoga Method, which is taught and used around the country. She has also been an adjunct professor and researcher at Hunter College and Columbia University.

As a physical therapist, Diana’s approach is to look broadly at the whole body and rehabilitate through a combination of physical repetition, postural alignment and mental cueing. Ultimately, her strategy is to get to the root of the cause of injury: the “why” as opposed to the “fix”.

As a yoga instructor, Diana has found that the teachings of mindfulness and breath provide the perfect foundation for facilitating her “re-training” approach to therapy. Adapting vinyasa style yoga postures to physical therapy treatment programs is central to her philosophy of yoga infused physical therapy.
